5 Minute Milkmaid Braid Tutorial

These past few weeks I’ve been able to spend so much more time at home! It has been really great for us. I am absolutely LOVING all of this granted time with my kids.

I don’t understand how it’s possible to have more time at home, and seemingly so much less time in the day. Has it felt that way for you? WELL. Lucky for you (and me) I have a super quick yet very cute style tutorial to show you!

These milkmaid braids are really easy (seriously, you can totally do this)! I love that I feel like I put in the effort and got ready for the day and this style keeps my hair out of my face while working or playing with my kids.

I wore my 22” extensions for this look, but they’re not necessary. I think the most valuable thing to learn from this video is how to pull the braids apart enough to give it the “oh I was totally born with this thick, luscious hair” look. Do you already have amazing hair? Well, well! You’re going to wear this look like a hair model dream!

SO! How do you do this?

  1. Start by parting your hair down the middle. This will ensure that your braids are the same size (or density as your stylist would say).

  2. Braid your hair at a 90 degree angle, as if you’re braiding towards the wall all Pippi Longstocking style. You know Pippi, right?

  3. Once you’ve loosely secured an elastic on the ends, gently start to tug out the braid. I like to use a powder volumizer to sprinkle over my braids to give it more grip. My hair is pretty fine, so if I don’t use something it slips back into skinny braid form.

  4. Wrap one braid across the top of your head, like where you would place a headband. Pin in place.

  5. Do the same on with your second braid. Pin in place and tuck the ends of each braid in and pin. Keep in mind we’re not creating a halo braid that goes all the way around. That tutorial is for when we nail this one and level up!

  6. Pull out as much or as little hair around your face as you’d like! I like to pull down the shorter pieces of my face framing and the baby hairs just in front of my ears. Then curl/flat iron/beach wave or whatever makes you feel the most like you!

  7. Shake your head gently from side to side, checking for loose spots and secure.

  8. Spray with a light hair spray and go live your romantic, milkmaid maiden life!
